HW#8 -- Engineering Report -- Due Tues. March 29, 2005 by Noon

Write a short report on one or both of the books you checked out from the library for HW#5. The report should follow the style guidelines given in the Engineering Report Format document . The document is a good general guide to writing engineering or other technical documents. The report should be several pages double-spaced. Remember to cite references if you are using materials that you did not personally produce.

E-mail Dr. Lemley a text or MS Word document containing the report by class-time on March 22.

HW#7 -- Team Viscometer Design -- Due Tues. March 22, 2005 by 9 a.m.

Meet with your team to prepare a document that describes a design for a device or procedure to measure liquid viscosity. Your team should decide on a design and be able to answer questions about the device in front of class on March 8. Prepare an electronic document - text, Word, Power Point, pdf, or html and e-mail this to Lemley by 9 a.m. on Tuesday March 8. You will make a short presentation in class on March 8 and use the electronic document you e-mailed me to make your presentation.

HW#6 -- Engineering Success -- Due Tues. Feb. 22, 2005 by Noon

Make a spreadsheet that covers a time period of a week (like that shown in your Engineering Success book) that shows how you utilizing are using your time. Include class meetings, lab meetings, meals, study time (for specific courses), entertainme nt, exrecise etc...

Name the spreadsheet uconnectlogin.xls (for example I would call mine elemley.xls).

You can find info on how to use MS Excel here.

Choose an engineering discipline and research it via the Chambers Library. You should have read your Engineering Success book about various disciplines at this point - use that reading and any references as a starting point for the following:

  1. The basic areas of study of this discipline.
  2. A list of at least five jobs that you might obtain with a Master's degree in this area
  3. A list of at least five U.S. companies that engage in work in this area -- you should include the name, location, and basic mission of each.
Make sure and properly reference your information. You can always find the proper reference styles here.

Submit both of these items to Dr. Lemley via e-mail by the due date and time. Make sure your subject line contains your name and ENGR 1111 HW#6.

HW#5 -- UCO Library Assignment -- Due Tues. Feb. 15, 2005 by Noon

Use the Chambers Library web-site to find some things:

  1. Use one of the engineering or related databases (discussed in class) to search for articles on a physics or engineering topic that you are interested in. You should find full citations and abstracts for at least four articles on a similar topic.
  2. Use the UCO library catalog to find two books on another physics or engineering topic of interest to you. You should make sure the books are available (on shelves) and go to the library to check them out. Another HW assignment given soon which will requ ire you to write a short report about the books.
Submit the following: A text or MS Word document with a full citation of each article and book identified. For the articles you should also include the abstract. E-mail Dr. Lemley this text or MS Word document.

HW#4 -- Club Participation Survey -- Due Tues. Feb. 8, 2005 by Noon

Please go to the Survey page to complete Homework#4.

You must choose two organizations in which to participate (one of them may be the Physics and Engineering Club). Here's what you have to do:

  1. Choose two (2) organizations.
  2. Contact the faculty sponsor or a current officer in the club and let them know you would like to know something about the club (i.e. what they do, etc...). Here is a link to UCO Student Organizations as of Spring 2004.
  3. Join the club.
  4. Participate in the club.
Don't forget to fill out the survey (that's to get credit for HW#4). You will need to fill in the contact info for the person with whom you spoke about the club and other basics like how often the club meets and the basic purpose of the club.

HW#3 -- Academic Biography -- Due Tues. Feb. 1, 2005 by Noon

Please go to the Survey page to complete Homework#3. This is a so-called Academic Biography - a series of questions will be asked to help you recount your academic background. This exercise should help you identify weaknesses (especially math and science) so they can be worked on as soon as possible.

HW#2 -- Campus Resources -- Due Tuesday Jan. 25, 2005 by Noon

Visit (in person) two (2) of the locations on the campus resources list (here) and collect the following information: name, location, purpose, hours of operation. E-mail Dr. Lemley (here) the results of your work by class time next week. Make sure you include your name and "HW#2" in the subject line of your e-mail.
